POSITION SUMMARY:

The Design Technician is a product designer that reports to the Sustaining Engineering Manager and is responsible for the timely and quality execution of assigned design and development tasks to meet the Company’s short term and long-term goals. This individual will be responsible for participating in and assisting with medical device design from concept through full production launch and maintenance in accordance with the Company’s design quality system.   

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design and execution stages of major new products or product enhancements
  • Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute product development activities including but not limited to design and execution stages of major new products or product enhancements, Risk Analysis, Prototyping, Design for Mfg. and Design for Inspection, Testing (Protocol creation, Physical Testing, and Test Report generation), Pilot Production, Design reviews, Verification, Validation, and Production.
  • Generating design history file deliverables for review and approval within an electronic Product Data Management system (SolidWorks PDM preferred)
  • Creation of design documents for assigned projects as required by applicable medical device standards and internal procedures.
  • Use 3D CAD software for model / print generation and Product Data Management for design documentation (SolidWorks CAD and PDM preferred) for the creation of parametric models that drive the creation of ASME Y14.5 compliant manufacturable prints.
  • Listen to customers and generate product inputs that define the design of entire systems as well as detailed components of the systems
  • Interact with remote and internal design and manufacturing resources to design for manufacturability, reliability and cost-effectiveness.
  • Willingness to work directly with cadavers and in surgical situations.
  • Research design options and perform experiments to determine potential design options considering manufacturability and inspection.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Requirements

  • Must be capable of professionally interacting with health care professionals on regular basis
  • Proficient with CAD software, Microsoft Office Suite and/or related software.
  • Experience with material selection, manufacturing methods, inspection techniques and critical measuring.
  • Must be willing to travel 10% of the time for trade shows, labs, surgeon training events, etc.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma or GED. Associates in Mechanical Design or Mechanical Engineering preferred.
  • Four (4) years of mechanical design experience preferably in the medical device industry.
  • Experience using 3D CAD software for model / print generation and Product Data Management for design documentation (SolidWorks CAD and PDM preferred).
  • Certified SOLIDWORKS Associate in Mechanical Design (CSWA) certification preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
