The Commodity Manager is responsible for managing specific local commodities or sub-commodities within a broader, global Commodity (Category). This role focuses on tactical execution of sourcing strategies, supplier management, and cost optimization while maintaining alignment with overall global Commodity (Category) objectives. The Commodity Manager works closely with cross-functional teams including Global Commodity Management, R&D, Operations, and Quality to ensure supply continuity, performance, and value delivery.
This position reports to the Senior Sourcing Manager and is part of the Global Sourcing located in Singapore and will be an on-site role.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
- Commodity strategy aligned to NPI & operations
Develop and execute local/sub-commodity strategies in line with global category goals; analyze market/technology roadmaps and supplier capabilities; provide data inputs to Global Commodity Managers; ensure alignment with NPI and ongoing operational needs. - Supplier selection, development & compliance. Identify, qualify, and negotiate with suppliers; manage contracts and performance to optimize quality, delivery, cost, and innovation; drive supplier development/innovation initiatives and own PAP documents management and completion.
- Stakeholder collaboration & decision support
Act as the sourcing point-of-contact with R&D, Operations, Quality, and other functions; support product development and production ramp-up; contribute to make-or-buy decisions and total cost of ownership (TCO) evaluations. - Cost, performance & risk management
Monitor and report commodity KPIs (cost savings, supplier performance); support budgeting/forecasting; implement and track cost-reduction initiatives; identify and mitigate supply risks; ensure adherence to corporate policies, legal requirements, and ethical standards. - Project & continuous improvement leadership
Lead low-to-medium complexity projects (scope, plans, timelines, budgets, risks, clear communication, stakeholder expectations); apply DBS tools (e.g., 5S, DMP, SW, TPI); participate in Kaizen events and coordinate supplier involvement.
The essential requirements of the job include:
- Minimum 7 years in procurement, sourcing, or supply chain management, with experience managing specific commodities.
- Strong negotiation, analytical, and project management skills; proficiency in SAP, e-procurement tools, Microsoft Office Suite, and PowerBI.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Fluent English (negotiation level) and willingness to travel (approx. 20%).
- High independence, reliability, intercultural competence, experience in multinational/matrixed organisations, and knowledge of TCO, Lean/Six Sigma, and HMLV environments.
