Description
Mortenson is currently seeking multiple Engineer 1’s. This entry level role would be responsible for engineering tasks to assist in the design of large-scale renewable energy systems. This includes designing the electrical, civil/structural and SCADA/communication infrastructure for Wind, Solar, Battery Storage projects. Scopes include Transmission Line, Substation, Collection, SCADA, Civil grading, Civil/Structural design functions.
Engineer 1 General Responsibilities/Requirements:
- Performs basic engineering tasks and calculations under supervision, supporting project design and execution across multiple phases including engineering support for proposals, estimating, procurement, detailed design and construction.
- Collaborate with design teams to ensure coordination and compliance with standards, customer requirements and best practices.
- Assists in reviewing vendor documentation, validating field conditions, and resolving site issues.
- Interfaces with operating group partners, customers and gathers technical data to recommend solutions.
- Contributes to detailed design work and supports senior engineers.
- Basic understanding of discipline specific technical designs, follows business standards/procedures, Quality control procedures, and engineering policies
- ABET accredited degree, EIT preferred and ability to get PE license in the future (SCADA roles not required)
- Ability to work on a team and perform individual tasks
New hires may be placed in one of the following businesses / industries:
- Electrical/Computer Engineer Roles (Battery Storage, Wind, Solar, System Studies, SCADA, Substation Protection and Controls/Relay, Substation Physical, Substation Application, EV/Microgrid)
- Civil/Structural Engineer Roles (Substation Structural, Pile Design, Transmission Line, Civil Grading)
The base compensation range for this role is $71,100-$99,900.This position is eligible for a potential annual bonus. Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skill and experience with consideration given to internal equity.

Requirements
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Computer Engineering/Science or related major by summer 2026
- Applicable mathematical skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Have previous related internship experience
- Have achieved a minimum overall GPA of 3.0/4.0
- Have a basic understanding of construction law and generally accepted business practices
- Demonstrate strong collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills and show initiative and leadership
- Showcase a positive and professional attitude and exemplary customer service skills
- Are detail-oriented, organized, and can effectively handle multiple
