Description
Performs basic technical engineering work on construction projects. Ability to perform field-based work, review and interpret design plans and contract specifications, coordinate design and construction submittals, and assist with managing day-to-day construction operations. Please note the reporting location will be based in Sherman Oaks.

Examples of Duties
Assists with the management of construction projects
Monitors the schedules and invoices of engineering projects to ensure completion within specified timetables and budgets
Assists in coordinating preparation of plans with Metro engineering staff and outside consultants
Recommends materials and equipment to be used in engineering projects
Reviews, plans, sketches, and specifications prepared by consultants for conformance with Metro requirements and standards
Prepares components of engineering designs, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates for the design, construction, or modification of Metro facilities
Coordinate various tasks between departments
Performs technical assignments related to rail traffic and safety engineering
Assists in the preparation of environmental impact statements
Prepares materials and researches data for presentation at public hearing concerning proposed Metro projects
May be required to perform other related job duties

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
A combination of education and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. Additional experience, as outlined below, may be substituted for required education on a year-for-year basis. A typical combination includes:
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or other related field
Experience:
None Required; experience performing engineering work preferred
Certifications/Licenses/Special Requirements:
A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions
Preferred Qualifications

The following are the preferred qualifications:
Experience reviewing technical drawings and specifications for major capital transportation projects.
Experience applying theories, principles, and practices of design and construction management in the delivery of transportation projects.
Experience utilizing Computer Aided Design CAD.

Applicable local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations
Materials, equipment and construction costs and estimating procedures

Performing basic engineering work and engineering calculations
Preparing and interpreting technical drawings and specifications
Compiling and analyzing complex data
Communicating effectively orally and in writing
Ability to (defined as a present competence to perform an observable behavior or produce an observable result)
Understand, interpret, and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, contracts, budgets, and labor/management agreements
Prepare comprehensive reports and correspondence
Interact professionally with various levels of Metro employees and outside representatives
Travel to offsite locations within a reasonable timeframe
Read, write, speak, and understand English
