Artwork Automation Manager
J&J Innovative Medicines is recruiting a manager in the Product Artwork department, within the Digital Operations & Technical Services (DOTS) organization.
Product Artwork (PA) consists of 30 employees and over 40 contractors. They manage the life cycle of all artworks (leaflets, labels, folding boxes, IFUs) for all J&J Innovative Medicine products representing about 8,000 SKU’s with more than 10,000 product artwork changes annually, serving 210 Local Operating Companies and guided by 30+ SOP/WIs.
PA is structured in three main pillars:
Product Artwork Design, responsible for Artwork Guidelines; Design& Prototyping, Instructions for Use; Innovation & Design
Product Artwork Coordination, responsible for E2E Artwork activities (creation; proofreading; prioritization)
Product Artwork Excellence, responsible for Systems & Processes; Partnerships/Vendor Management; Performance Management; Quality & Compliance oversight.
The ideal candidate will:
Lead the development and creation of automated artwork templates. Oversee the creation and implementation of automated design solutions in Adobe InDesign, ensuring high-quality PDF outputs for print while collaborating with designers on integrated workflows. Provide technical training and support to team members, staying current with the latest InDesign technologies and best practices.
Manage coordination operations in the APAC region, partnering with different functions within Product Artwork (PA), Regulatory LOC, Regional Demand and Supply, Pack Sites, Global Labelling & Compliance, Packaging CoE, Global Planning, among other stakeholders for timely and compliant mock-up and artwork creation in the APAC region. He/she continuously drives the optimization of the artwork coordination & creation processes in collaboration with various departments inside & outside the PA, with results measured in the framework of a performance/metric-based culture.
Key responsibilities:
Lead the development and implementation of automated design solutions using Adobe InDesign, ensuring the quality and accuracy of PDF outputs for print distribution, including preflight checks and troubleshooting.
Stay updated with the latest InDesign and PDF technologies, plugins, best practices, understanding dynamic data and layout rules, and workflows using tagging and scripting.
Manage APAC Product Artwork coordination activities including creation, proofreading and order planning activities.
Accountable for timely mock-up creation supporting Health Authority submission and artwork readiness (creation, approval, and release to suppliers) for use in pack site production, and agreement on implementation timelines within the APAC region.
Organize execution, plan resources, and ensure sufficient operational capacity for base business and projects.
Drive E2E performance and metric based culture within the artwork coordination team.
Monitor performance of stakeholders in the artwork process and define together with the PA LT the strategy to improve the stakeholder performance (Re-run rate, E2E Cycle time from HA approval till artwork released, Right first-time PA & E2E).
Lead or act as a core team member in key project initiatives both cross-functional and global.
Work closely with Product Artwork Excellence team for all quality and compliance related events, performance metrics, audit, development of SOP, training content and system master data input.
Collaborate with designers and content creators to lead InDesign workflows with other systems and platforms. Provide technical support & training to team members on advanced InDesign functionalities.
Requirements
Professional experience in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop). Minimum of 10 years of experience with Adobe InDesign and prepress
Strong proficiency in JavaScript, ExtendScript, and other relevant scripting languages for InDesign automation
Extensive experience with PDF creation, management, and optimization, including knowledge of PDF/X standards and prepress processes
Knowledge of color management, preflight, and print production processes
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in a Pharmaceutical / regulated environment. (e.g., Knowledge of cGMP, pharmaceutical legislation.) Solid knowledge about E2E product artworks and printed packaging materials, interfaces with key functions, and a deep understanding of supply chain challenges (e.g., familiarity with regulations, GxP environment, manufacturing complexity and advancements such as digital labeling, etc.)
